All people with functioning ovaries will go through menopause at some point in their lives. Symptoms of menopause can impact women’s lives for several years to over a decade. Some women will begin experiencing perimenopause in their late thirties and others will have postmenopause symptoms into their sixties. While every woman will experience menopause differently, one given is that their menstrual cycle will come to a end. The change of a women’s sex hormones creates a large variety physiological and psychological symptoms which may include things like:
Uncomfortable hot flushes/hot flashes and other vasomotor symptoms | Weight gain and changes to body fat distribution | Mood swings | Brain fog | Lack of energy and fatigue | Trouble sleeping | Pelvic health concerns and changes | Digestive issues | Vaginal dryness and discomfort | Greater risk of injury or difficulty recovering from exercise and more
These are on top of other major life transitions some women may be facing like children leaving home, parents aging, relationships changing, identities evolving and such. To sum it up – the experience overall can be challenging at every level.
While menopause is a natural, normal and inevitable part of most women’s lives, there is unfortunately a lack of resources, years of stigma and misleading or inaccurate information that make the transition even more challenging. As a Certified Menopause Coaching Specialist my goal is to be a part of women’s support team throughout this time and prevent women from having to “suffer in silence” like so many women have had to do in the past. With the right support and care, clients can look at this as just a new chapter in their book that is full of potential for them! Through appropriate exercise programming, discussion of other lifestyle factors and support through our sessions, I can help my clients in making the best of this transition in life.
I look forward to working with you!
